Zita here 😀
I’ll be running 5km every day in November!
I’ve been inspired by the stories coming out of Indigenous Marathon Foundation. I’ve read about how their programs have helped people with addiction recovery, healing after DV and processing grief. I’m hoping to contribute to the great work they do.
I first heard about the Foundation on an Osher Gunsberg podcast and then I saw a group at the Canberra Marathon earlier this year. The runners all looked so nervous and they had a group of coaches cheering them on in the rain.
Running has been an amazing confidence builder for me. It has helped me find routine and community in my life and keep my mental health strong.
I know how expensive running can be - new shoes every second month, the entry fees, the physio, the podiatrist, the gels and those pricey blister bandaids. There are also work and family commitments that could easily take anyone off track.
I am hoping to fundraise to empower the IMF participants during what has been a hard year for the indigenous community.
Thank you
Zita ❤️
Stories that inspired me 🌅
Brendan Larcombe -
“Humans don’t live alone, we live in groups, and when I was younger, I was trying to find that group and feeling of belonging, running around trying to be something I’m not, with gangs, drinking and drugs. Having these people from IMF RAW around me now reminds me I belong to something, something good, and something that my community, family and sons can be proud of. People in the Cairns community know who I am. If you say my name, they will associate me as a runner from Cairns IMF RAW. Because that’s who I am. That’s what I belong to.”
